WKC's Dance ProgramCourses Offered:
Grade 9_ Dance - DAN11G Grade 10 Dance - DAN21G Grade 11/12 Dance - DAN31G/DAN41G General Overview: Students will develop skills in dance, exploring dance as an art form and means of self-expression. Students will experience a variety of dance disciplines and styles while exploring the medium to develop creativity, self-discipline and cooperation. Performance is an essential element of the program. Curriculum Framework: Dance Language and performance skills: Students develop understanding of and facility with dance techniques, elements and concepts. Creative Expression in Dance: Students collaboratively and individually generate, develop and communicate ideas in the processes of creating and performing dance for diverse purposes and audiences. Understanding Dance in Context: Students connect dance to contexts of time, place and community, and develop understanding of how dance reflects and influences culture and identity. Valuing Dance Experience: Students analyze, reflect and construct meaning in response to dance created by themselves and others. Zero Gravity Dance TeamWKC offers an extra curricular dance team which rehearses before/after school and on occasional lunch hours. Schedules are distributed for each month in an attempt to accommodate students work/other team schedules.
Commitment and dedication to the team is crucial. The team's main goal is to perform as much as possible in school and community events. The team has previously performed at school events such as Remembrance Day Ceremonies, Open House, Choir Concerts, Dance Recital, etc. If you are interested in being on the dance team please see Ms. D. Deck. Dance and performance experience are both required. |
WKC presented the musical "Little Shop of Horrors" which included members of Zero Gravity Dance Team. The musical was presented with a Rainbow Stage School Scholorship Award for their outstanding performance!
